Abstract
ThepresentstudyinvestigatedtheidentitydevelopmentstatusanditsrelationshipwithfamilyfactorsespeciallyfamilyfunctioninginasampleofmigrantchildreninChengdu,China.Thesampleconsistedof607youngadolescents(329migrantchildrenand278non-migrantchildren).Alltheparticipantspletedthemeasuresofidentity,familyfunctioning,securityandattachment.
Comparedwithnon-migrantchildren,identitydevelopmentofmigrantchildrenwasrelativelypoor.Inthemoredyunctionalfamilies,therewaslackofsecurityamongmigrantchildren,andtheirparent-childrelationshipswerealsolesssecureandmorenegative.Familyfunctioningwassignificantlyrelatedtoidentitydevelopmentandsecurityamongmigrantchildren.Furtheranalysesshowedthatsecuritywasplayingaroleofmediatorintherelationshipbetweenfamilyfunctioningandidentitydevelopment.Family-relatedprotectivefactorsweresuggested.
