中国的双语教育

摘 要:这篇论文通过对中国双语教学现状的探讨,揭示双语教学的实质应该是积极并富有趣味性的,因为它帮助学生从两个不同角度了解世界.良好的双语教学应是两种语言同等重要,互为补充,互相促进.

Accordingto“NationalAssociationforbilingualEducationWebsite”,bilingualeducationrefersto“approachesintheclassroomthatusethenativelanguagesof[second/Foreignlanguage]learnerorinstruction”.Itshouldbeenrichmentnotonlyinculturebutalsoinlanguageskill.However,today,thereisanunquestionabledebateinregardtobilingualeducation.Forthosewhoadvocatebilingualeducationholdthatbilingualeducationisagoodwaytobroadenlearners’mindsandwellpreparethemforthefierceglobalpetition,whileothersviewbilingualeducationasaprobleminthatlearnerayeasilymixonelanguagewithanotherandtendtolosetheirlanguageabilities.

What’sthebilingualsituationinChinaWiththeimplementationofopeningpolicyandthetendencyofglobalization,ChinesegovernmenthadpassedseverallawstodeemphasizetheimportanceofRussianandincreasethepercentageofEnglisheducationinordertointroducethemostadvancedtechnologyandmanagementexpertisefromtheabroad.Meanwhile,Englishhasbeemoreandmoreimportantasatoolattheinternationalstagewithrespecttoeconomy,politics,cultureandeducation.SinceBeijingandShanghaiwonthebidfor2008OlympicGamesand2010WorldExposition,ChinesepeopledisplayedgreatpassionforstudyingEnglish.However,theChinesegovernmentdidnotstrikeabalanceforEnglisheducation.Itspent40%oftheoveralleducationbudgetonEnglisheducation.Eventhoughit,tosomeextent,improvestheawarenessofEnglisheducation,itwasteslotsofmoneyandtimesinceEnglishprogramswereconductedinanon-Englishenvironment.Inthe“ParadoxofEnglish-ChinesebilingualeducationandNationalChinesestratagem”,Pengexpressedthattheoretically,studyingChineseaswellasEnglishshouldnotbeaproblembecausetheybenefiteachotherinacertainway.Itisanadvantageforpeoplewhoarebilinguals.However,bilingualeducationinChinahasgonetoanextreme(24).

Firstofall,schoolsoveremphasizetheimportanceofEnglisheducation.Amongalllevelsofeducation,Englishisalwaysregardedtobethecoresubject.Inreality,manypreschoolkidsstarttolearnEnglishatkindergarten,whereastheyevencouldnotspeakChineseverywell.Intheentranceexaminationtocollege,Englishisoneofthethreemainsubjects(othersareChineseandMathematics)tobetestedandthescoredecidesifastudentcouldgotothetopschools.Evenatuniversities,Englishremainseryimportantsubject.ThosewhoarenotEnglishmajorsstillneedtopassnationwideEnglishexams,suchasCET4andCET6,inordertogetdegrees.Moreover,thereisatendencythatschoolsadvocatestudentstostudyEnglishasearlyaspossible,whentheystillstrugglefortheirownnativelanguage.However,ifwepayattentiontobilingualeducationrecordsintheWesterncountries,wemayfindthatmostofthecountriesactuallyputtheforeign/secondlanguageeducationatmiddleschool,whenstudentshealreadymasteredtheirnativelanguageandalreadyheabetterunderstandingoftheworldthroughtheirculture.Onlyinthiscasecouldnativelanguageserveasanaidforforeign/secondlanguageeducation.
